I have been very impressed with our Florida Governor Charlie Christ over the past few months but the sad part is that I feel it's more about doing what the people want so he can keep his job. I'll take whatever we can get and if he is serious about putting a ban on offshore drilling in Florida than I will be on the front lines fighting with him because there is simply no way the South Coast can afford a second spill ever. I realize it's to late for the Gulf region and we should be focused on clean up but it is also very nice to think that we may be able to stop this from ever happening directly offshore in our beloved Sunshine State.

I wonder too myself what would happen if that oil spill had been located off the Florida Keys and spread all around the entire state and I cringe in fear that this beautiful State with so many thousands of miles of coastline and beaches would be awash in black death much like that which has come ashore in Mississippi or Louisiana. I could not imagine what life in Florida would be like without our beautiful beaches and regardless of how nice the weather is you can't enjoy life here with out the beaches.

If Christ is serious about banning oil development in the Sunshine State then he gets our vote as independent Governor but if he backs out or lets something slip through he can forget about his aspirations beyond Florida. I'll dedicate my life online to making sure a liar like that never gets more power that what he has already had. Do you think Christ cares about Florida or his job?

Calling the spill that has released millions of gallons of oil onto four Gulf States "a devastating, catastrophic event," Florida Gov. Charlie Crist said he wants an end to oil exploration off his state's coastline.

In addition to plugging the leak at the site of BP's destroyed Deepwater Horizon rig, Crist said this morning that "We need to stop offshore oil drilling in Florida.

"I would like to have a special session to ban it here in the Sunshine State," he told CBS "Early Show" anchor Harry Smith. "We're so dependent on tourism for our economy, it's very important that we keep [the beaches] clean."
